The thrombodynamics method aims to imitate in vitro the growth of fibrin from a surface by video recording of thickness of a fibrin layer.
The coagulation process in thrombodynamics starts from a surface which has immobilized tissue factor mimicking blood vessel wall damage.
In the example data, the thickness in time is given for normal plasma and haemophilia plasma which shows strongly reduced clot growth.

This assay, in our hands is standardized and showed dependence upon factor VIII and IX and on factor XI and polyphosphate, and shows unique sensitivity to inhibitors. It offers an opportunity to generate mechanistic data on novel drugs (Factor VIII and IX variants) for replacement treatment. Inhibitory profiles for coagulation inhibitors can be produced, notably for factor XIa inhibitors.
